How to convert a Tripo model to OBJ
OBJ is the simplest interchange format: almost every 3D tool opens it, but it does not carry PBR materials as cleanly as GLB or FBX. Use OBJ when you need maximum compatibility or a simple mesh for print prep, not as your master file.
Convert Tripo to OBJ, step by step
- 1
Download the Tripo model first
Copy a studio.tripo3d.ai link you can open, analyze it in Tripo Grab, and download the original file first.
- 2
Convert to OBJ
Choose Convert to OBJ in the download panel. The convert runs in your browser. OBJ may arrive with an MTL material file — keep it next to the OBJ.
- 3
Open the OBJ in your tool
Import the OBJ into Blender, a slicer, or another DCC tool. Check scale and orientation, and relink textures from the texture zip if the material looks flat.
OBJ + MTL checks
- Keep the MTL file with the OBJ. Without it, materials will not load.
- Use OBJ for interchange, GLB for PBR, FBX for game engines.
- For printing, STL or 3MF are usually better than OBJ.
Tripo OBJ questions
Why is my Tripo OBJ missing textures?+
OBJ materials live in a separate MTL file, and textures are separate images. Keep all three together, and relink the texture paths in your tool if they break.
OBJ or GLB?+
GLB for PBR and single-file use. OBJ only when a tool you must use does not open GLB or FBX.
Try it on your own model
Paste a link you can already open, preview it, then download the format you need.
